The Best Gameweek 7 Goalkeeper

Nick Pope (£5.4m)

Norwich rank bottom for big chances (6) and shots inside the box (31) this season, so I’ve decided to target them this week at Turf Moor. Burnley haven’t had a good start to the season but I’m still expecting Dyche to get the job done against Norwich.

The Best Gameweek 7 Defenders

Marcos Alonso and Andreas Christensen (£5.9m and £5.0m)

Tuchel’s backline is turning into a bit of a minefield, so I’ve decided to stick two fingers into the pie this week. Chelsea’s numbers haven’t been as solid as last season with Edouard Mendy (£6.0m) being required on a lot more occasions. I’m not too concerned with the rotation as I’ve picked a stronger bench this week incase one drops out. Alonso’s numbers have been mouth watering, so a start brings an extremely high ceiling. Christensen, meanwhile, should hopefully tick over with a bog standard 6-pointer. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/best-fpl-defenders-for-gameweek-7-fantasy-premier-league-tips-2021-22/

Aaron Cresswell (£5.5m)

Despite an impressive start to the season, Brentford’s front line haven’t been prolific every week, but enough to ruin a lot of clean sheets. With his opposite flank a doubt, I think a full back will be a good option in this game even if a clean sheet might not be straightforward. The fullback has registered a goal and an assist already this season. In a week when it looks hard to predict, adding the chance of attacking threat is never a bad option.

The Best Gameweek 7 Midfielders

Bruno Fernandes (£12.5m)

It’s been a while since Fernandes has been in the XI. He felt like an auto-pick last season but with added competition up the pitch, I’ve gotten away with not picking him as frequently this season. This week the front line options are so congested that I’ve returned to the tried and trusted midfielder against Everton. Thanks to a kind start to the season, Everton rank second for big chances conceded (6) and third for shots inside the box conceded (35). But Everton have rarely looked like a team that would give you confidence in keeping a clean sheet, and that shows with their xGC being lower than their actual goals conceded. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/

Ismaila Sarr (£6.2m)

Watford face Leeds in Gameweek 7. Leeds are still struggling with injuries and Watford’s talisman has been lighting up the Premier League in his second season. Only three other players can boast a higher xG (3.38) this season and at his price. He’s an easy pick this week.

Wilfred Zaha (£6.9m)

Crystal Palace’s seemingly new penalty taker is up against one of the most out of form sides in Leicester this week. Brendan Rodgers’ men don’t seem to know how to defend at the moment and Viera’s men have started the season better than I expected. The Ivorian rarely stands out in the stats but his individual talent makes me prefer him to the likes of Conor Gallagher (£5.7m) or someone in the precious striker spot. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/

Raphinha (£6.5m)

While his minutes may be being managed, he’s the only Leeds player I’d want in the XI at the moment. He faces Watford who haven’t showed poor defensive stats this season, but you have to remember they’ve had a kind run of fixtures so far this season. While his teammates are dropping like flies, he’s going to be the focal point this weekend. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/best-fpl-midfielders-for-gameweek-7-fantasy-premier-league-tips-2021-22/

Best Gameweek 7 Forwards

Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m)

The Belgian embarks on a purple patch of fixtures and it’s not a secret he’s known for being a flat-track bully in the past. Despite two blanks against Man City and Tottenham and a blank in midweek, Southampton should be a good game to get him back on track. Southampton’s defensive numbers are impressive. They rank in the top third for best defensive stats over their last four games, so I don’t see an absolute walkover.

Michail Antonio (£8.0m)

West Ham’s opponents have really impressed me this season. Defensively, they only conceded more than a single goal last gameweek for the first time this season. That being said, West Ham’s offensive stats have been the best out of anyone outside of last seasons top four. Antonio’s numbers are also exceptional so it wasn’t a hard decision for him to remain in the XI.

Raul Jimenez (£10.4m)

Newcastle have been porous at the back this season conceding the highest xGC (13.5) as well as the second highest amount of big chances conceded (18). Jimenez finally broke his duck last week and carries a lot of creativity along with his goal threat.

Bench

Ben Foster (£4.0m), Bukayo Saka (£6.3m), Nelson Semedo (£4.9m) and Shane Duffy (£4.3m) sit on the bench.

Notable Omissions

Liverpool and Manchester City players don’t feature in Gameweek 7 as they face each other. I don’t think this is an easy game to call. Man City have had the best defence this season, conceding just five shots on target. Meanwhile, Liverpool aren’t an easy opponent at Anfield. Therefore, I’ve decided to steer clear, but if I had to call it, I think it’ll be a low scoring affair. I could’ve picked about six forwards this week so when there’s a viable midfield alternative, I sided with them and that’s why I’ve left out Ronaldo (£12.7m). I’m hoping Bruno can do the business as he’s been desperately unlucky not to register an assist in recent weeks and it looks like he’s still clinging on to pens. Chris Wood (£6.8m) should surely get the chance to double his goals tally for the season against Norwich but Burnley’s and his stats haven’t set the world alight so I slightly favoured the Wolves striker over him. Jamie Vardy (£10.2m) did wonders for us last week but Leicester’s general form has made me look elsewhere despite his points. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him return this week but with Europe midweek, there are more well-rested options to choose from.
