The Best Gameweek 10 Goalkeeper and Defenders
Edouard Mendy (£6.1m) and Ben Chilwell (£5.8m)
Chelsea’s defence hasn’t been as solid as the back end of last season but they are still providing great options. Their wingbacks are capable of mega returns. Newcastle sit in the bottom quarter for all major attacking numbers and they’ve tallied the third lowest xG (4.0) over the last four games. Chilwell looks like he’s retained the number one left-back spot. Yet there will be rotation over the coming months, although I don’t think there’s much worry this week. He ranks second amongst defenders for xG (1.14), despite playing one game less during the past four matches.
Ruben Dias (£6.2m) and Joao Cancelo (£6.4m)
Apart from conceding six big chances over the last four (half of which came against Liverpool), Manchester City top the defensive charts, unsurprisingly. Cancelo has registered the most shots this season amongst defenders and over the last four games (8), accumulating an xG of 1.02. Dias carries a safe return if Man City keep a clean sheet.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m)
Trent is back in the best free hit team a few weeks after picking up an injury, but this week he’s an easy inclusion against Brighton. The Best Gameweek 10 Midfielders
Mohammed Salah (£12.7m) and Diogo Jota (£7.5m)
The Liverpool attack are purring at the moment so I want to have two going forward. Liverpool rank top for big chances (19) and xG (10.5) over the last four.
Phil Foden (£8.1m)
Despite a bit of luck last week, I think Foden is a good pick once again. With Ferran Torres out, it provides the England international with another position to slot in at. As with all Man City players, rotation is inevitable but it’s about picking your weeks and hoping for a bit of luck. Crystal Palace aren’t the easiest opposition on paper but there are still goals to be had, especially when you’re Manchester City. Only Salah has recorded more shots inside the box and a higher xG than Foden over the last four.
Mason Mount (£7.5m)
It feels like chasing points this week, yet Newcastle is a plum fixture for any team. I don’t see Mount as an explosive player despite his return last week, but rather a player that will tick over. Mount had two big chances and two big chances created during his last four games with a total of 140 minutes.
Best Gameweek 10 Forwards
Michael Antonio (£7.5m)
Aston Villa rank bottom for xGC (9.4), big chances (13), shots (76) and shots inside the box conceded (46) in their last four. Antonio seems an easy choice this week.
Ivan Toney (£6.6m)
Brentford have been dangerous going forward this season and they face Burnley who sit second bottom for shots conceded inside the box (44), conceding six times in their last four. Foster (£4.0m), Gray (£5.8m), Livramento (£4.4m) and Gelhardt (£4.5m) are on the bench.
