The Best Gameweek 12 Goalkeeper
Vincente Guaita (£4.6m)
Crystal Palace’s defensive assets haven’t featured this season. However, after coming out of a tough run relatively unscathed, they are set to feature more often as they begin a good run of games. Palace conceded the joint fewest big chances over the last four (3) and the second lowest xG (3.4). Opponents Burnley sit in the top third for big chances but they sit near the bottom of the attacking table when it comes to the shot metrics.
The Best Gameweek 12 Defenders

Reece James (£5.9m)
The Chelsea attacking wing-backs carry a massive upside against any opponents. I can’t see why you wouldn’t take a risk on at least one of them on a Free Hit. Leicester have struggled this season but I’m not overly confident in a clean sheet but an attacking return is possible. James ranks top for key passes amongst defenders over the last four (10) and is underperforming his xA of 1.34.
Joao Cancelo (£6.5m)
Cancelo is another wing-back that is nailed into this team every week. He has attempted the most shots out of every single player over the last four games (16), tallying an xG of 1.55. Meanwhile, Everton are averaging less than a goal a game in the last four. This is despite attempting the joint third-most shots (42) but these resulted in just five big chances.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7m)
Trent seems to have a knack of picking up returns against top sides, so a fixture against a resurgent Arsenal doesn’t put me off the league’s most threatening fullback. Arsenal have failed to score against last season’s top four so far but they’re a different side now. I think Liverpool will win the game and I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Arsenal come away goalless. As it is with any fullback, there are so many avenues for points and Trent arguably has the most with his set-piece expertise.
Tino Livramento (£4.6m)
Southampton travel to Norwich for Dean Smith’s first game in charge. I’m hoping a new manager boost doesn’t kick in straight away. The Saints have kept five clean sheets and conceded 12 goals this season which is in the top 20% of teams. This budget pick isn’t only based on his advanced positioning but also the great value offered by Southampton’s defence.
The Best Gameweek 12 Midfielders

Mohammed Salah (£13m)
Despite two five pointers in his last two games, I can’t see any reason not to include Liverpool’s main man. Arsenal have been much more resolute at the back since their hammering against Man City in Gameweek 3. Nevertheless, Salah is fixture proof and should receive enough chances against the Gunners.
Phil Foden (£8.3m)
Minutes are becoming less of a concern for Foden as he’s started the last six games, missing just four minutes. However, I will be slightly more wary as the fixture schedule heatens up. He has created two big chances and received two big chances in his last four. Everton are joint top for big chances conceded in the last four, shipping eight goals in their last four matches.
Heung-Min Son (£10.3m)
A classic case of fixture over form. This is what most managers aim to do with each of their transfers: select a player before they hit form. Antonio Conte is just two games in and had very contrasting performances. Yet I’m optimistic Spurs assets will feature heavily over the coming weeks as they embark on a purple patch of fixtures. Son has been receiving big chances (3) but unlike last season, he hasn’t been as clinical in front of goal.
Jarrod Bowen (£6.4m)
West Ham’s prime pick in their frontline on the basis of underlying numbers. The Englishman has attempted the second most shots inside the box (11) and had two big chances over those four matches. He ranks top for assists, averaging one a game in the last four. This is evidenced through his three big chances created which is the most of anyone in this period.
Connor Gallagher (£5.9m)
Crystal Palace travel to Burnley who have shipped the most shots inside the box this season, conceding 17 times. The Eagles are a team that are carrying confidence and form into their games. At such a cheap price, Gallagher is definitely worth considering if you’re on a budget. He is outperforming the inconsistent Wilfried Zaha when it comes to his underlying numbers too. From the eye test, I don’t think he’s a player that will constantly tick over. However, I think he’s likely to get a return every other game. The same can be said for his potential to earn the odd haul, especially in easier fixtures which are starting now.
The Best Gameweek 12 Forwards

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.4m)
Ronaldo is almost anonymous in the goal threat stats which is a major surprise if you didn’t watch any of Man Utd’s last four games. That being said, they face Watford on the road and I think he’s worth punting on as your premium forward this week. Since Claudio Ranieri’s first game in charge, the Hornets sit middle of the table for defensive numbers. As a result, I don’t think we’ll see a capitulation like we did against Liverpool but it doesn’t put me off enough to leave out Ronaldo.
