What is the best FPL Double Gameweek 22 Free Hit team? FPL Junior (five top 17k finishes in the last six seasons) shares his FPL tips by selecting a team each week to try and score as many points as possible. In essence, he will be playing his Free Hit Chip every single gameweek. Don’t forget to check out our Ultimate Guide to FPL Double Gameweek 22 which has everything you need to help you make the best decisions ahead of the deadline. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/premier-league-predicted-lineups/ Double Gameweek 22 is our second Double Gameweek in a row but this week is a much more substantial one. While it is not a breathtaking set of fixtures and teams on paper, there are always opportunities to make gains. However, with so much out of our hands at the moment it has become a slight lottery, so if you believe luck is on your side and your team isn’t in great shape, then this week provides a good opportunity to Free Hit.
The Best Gameweek 22 Goalkeeper
David De Gea (£5.1m)
The defensive options in Double Gameweek 22 don’t look overly appealing to me. Defensively Man United have been more solid under Rangnick but their defence doesn’t fill me with confidence. De Gea still has the potential to rack up saves and I prefer him to any of their outfield options. Since Ragnick joined, they’ve conceded an xGC of 1.2 per game and their fixtures are one of the easiest in the double. Brentford looks like the main chance of points as they’ve failed to score in their last three matches against big six opposition. Aston Villa will be a tougher test.
The Best Gameweek 22 Defenders
Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m)
Despite just playing one game, Alexander-Arnold is locked into the XI this week. Brentford hit three past Liverpool in the reverse fixture but I don’t see that happening again. The full back has had plenty of rest and is back in training having recovered from COVID, so he shouldn’t miss out. Not many teams who play twice stand out to me at the back, so I think he’s a good pick despite playing once. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/
Marcos Alonso (£5.7m)
With Chelsea’s lack of options, Alonso has become a nailed option in Chelsea’s backline. Over the last six Chelsea have conceded an average of 1.1 xGC per appearance which is the same as their season average, showing they have been unlucky to have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine games. I’m not expecting much in their first fixture and I don’t think Brighton will dominate the game like they did a fortnight ago. His ceiling is too hard to ignore in Double Gameweek. Marcos Alonso Stats
Sergio Reguillon (£5.4m)
The Spaniard completes the trio of expansive full backs. Spurs have the best defensive numbers over their last six games, averaging 0.6 xGC a game. The fixtures of Arsenal and Leicester aren’t easy opposition but I feel Reguilon is due an attacking return with the positions he has got into lately. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/
The Best Gameweek 22 Midfielders
Diogo Jota (£8.2m)
With the main men away at AFCON, Jota has a lot more pressure and responsibility in Liverpool’s front three. Brentford haven’t been poor defensively this season, ranking 8th best for xGC (1.4 per game) and despite Liverpool’s attack being a bit lighter I still think he’s a good option with none of those midfielders playing twice lighting up the stats tables.
James Maddison and Youri Tielemans (£6.9m)
Leicester don’t have a bad set of fixtures for their double with Burnley looking like a great fixture while the Spurs game could go either way. Over The Foxes’ last six games, they have ranked joint 5th for xG, the best out of the non-big six sides with an average of 1.9 per game. Looking at this, I definitely think it’s worth going for at least one of their attacking assets. Maddison has really impressed lately and has the added bonus of set-piece duty. Maddison has the highest xGI for any Leicester player over the last six, with an average of 0.8, only bettered by seven other players. Tielemans has spot kick duty with Jamie Vardy now out injured and over his last four appearances, he’s had an xGI of 0.4 per game, matching most of his teammates apparent from Maddison. In a week that is proving tough to find so called obvious choices, a player with penalties carries more of a chance of finding a haul.
Mason Mount (£7.7m)
Mount makes the XI with his double against Man City and Brighton. I think he’s Chelsea’s best attacking option with Jorginho’s recent returns reliant on penalties. His xGI of 0.6 is the 15th best in the league which shows this weeks midfield options are a little bleak but Mount also has some corners and free-kicks to his name. I don’t see much coming from the Man City game, so I’m expecting the bulk of his points to arrive against Brighton. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/ben-crellins-fpl-transfer-planning-sheet/
The Best Gameweek 22 Forwards
Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m)
Manchester Utd have arguably the best set of fixtures with them facing Aston Villa and Brentford. I don’t fancy any of Man Utd’s attacking assets other than Ronaldo but if there were other Double Gameweeks for either of the top two sides, I don’t think he would have made the cut. Manchester United’s attack has continued to look dysfunctional and has really lacked consistency. Over the last six games, Ronaldo’s stats haven’t been bad. He’s averaged 0.9 xGI, the fifth best in the league but his sides average xG over that period is the eighth best in the league. I don’t think its worth leaving Ronaldo out on a free hit this week but that’s as far as I would go with their attack. Cristiano Ronaldo Stats
Harry Kane (£12.2m)
Over the last four games, only his teammate and Salah have a higher xGI. His performances are a stark contrast to the start of the season, but with Son now out injured, I’m concerned that these numbers are going to take a hit. Despite his two fixtures being against decent opposition, Kane loves playing against Leicester and he also has a good record against Arsenal. Leicester’s defence is especially poor, with only Watford and Newcastle having a worse xGC this season. With Salah at AFCON, the XI has room for a few more heavy hitters and I think Kane’s the best premium pick this week. https://fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-double-gameweek-22-what-to-do-with-son-and-salah/
Emmanuel Dennis (£6.1m)
Watford have the best fixtures in DGW22, so one of their attackers is an easy choice. Dennis is in 38.6% of FPL manager’s teams and has visually looks the better option compared to King, but the latter does have penalties. Watford have looked a very attacking side but they have averaged the 12th highest xG in the league over their last six matches, albeit their fixtures being tough. During that period they have actually underperformed, scoring just six times. Dennis has been superb value at his current price as over the last six games, only the other two men in this front line have a higher xGI amongst forwards (0.6 per game). The cheaper alternative in King isn’t too far behind with a 0.5 xGI per game, so it is not a straightforward decision to pick one over the other.
