With Gameweek 3 now behind us, the Fantasy EFL season is in full swing. Friday’s clash between Luton Town against Queens Park Rangers kicks off Gameweek 4. To help you fine-tune your team before Friday’s deadline, here’s our in-house expert’s team reveal.
Sam Harding has opted for a 1-2-2-2 formation, same as Gameweek 3. With a double-up on West Brom and Sunderland players, and some differentials thrown in as well. He said…
Last week I managed to return 58 points, bringing my total so far up to 180 points. It was a good week all round, but my double-up on Watford players is where I dropped points last week. I also gave Watford’s Giorgi Chakvetadze (M) the armband last week, which only returned me eight points. This did leave me feeling frustrated that I did not opt for the obvious captaincy pick of Alfie May (F) and was a contributing factor as to why he is my captain this weekend.
PLAYER PICKS
GOALKEEPER
West Brom’s Alex Palmer (G) is my top pick for Gameweek 4. The Baggies have been impressive this season, with two wins and a draw against tough opponents. Their upcoming match against Swansea City at The Hawthorns is a great opportunity for Palmer to earn points. With a low ownership of just 4.5%, he’s a potential differential who could rack up saves and even secure a clean sheet bonus.
DEFENDERS
Anthony O’Connor (D) from Harrogate Town and Dennis Cirkin (D) from Sunderland will form the backbone of my defence. Harrogate has been a revelation this season, and O’Connor has been a standout performer, contributing 25 points to Fantasy managers. With a mere 0.2% ownership, he’s a hidden gem for Gameweek 4, especially as Harrogate faces Barrow at home. Cirkin, Sunderland’s centre-back, has already earned 34 points this season. The Black Cats have a solid defence and are yet to concede a goal. Their upcoming match against Portsmouth (A) will be a test, but Cirkin could be a valuable asset, both defensively and offensively. Given their low ownership and potential for high returns, both O’Connor and Cirkin are excellent differential picks for Gameweek 4.
MIDFIELDERS
Interceptions have become a vital aspect of Fantasy EFL success. Luton Town’s Alfie Doughty (M) is a master at this, consistently winning the ball back eight times (+16) for his team. The Hatters face QPR at home, a crucial match as they look for their first win of the season. Doughty’s ability to intercept combined with Luton’s need for a victory makes him a compelling option for Gameweek 4. Sunderland’s Luke O’Nien (M) is another standout midfielder. He’s been a driving force for the Black Cats, contributing 29 points with goals and assists. O’Nien also had made four interceptions (+8), offering a well-rounded game. The combination of Doughty and O’Nien offers a balance of attacking and defensive potential, making them excellent midfield picks for Gameweek 4. Their ability to intercept the ball and contribute offensively makes them valuable assets for Fantasy managers.
FORWARDS
Josh Maja (F) and Alfie May (F) will form a formidable partnership up front in Gameweek 4. Maja has been in scintillating form, scoring a remarkable four goals in just three matches for West Bromwich Albion. The Baggies face Swansea City at home, a prime opportunity for Maja to showcase his goal-scoring abilities and extend his impressive tally.
May has been a consistent performer for Birmingham City, delivering points in every Gameweek. With a home match against Wigan Athletic, May is well-positioned to secure another double-digit haul. His reliability and consistency make him a strong captaincy choice for Gameweek 4, which is why he’s wearing the armband! The combination of Maja’s goal-scoring ability and May’s consistent performances makes them a formidable attacking duo for this Gameweek.
CLUB PICKS
I’m confident in West Brom’s chances this week, particularly their home match against Swansea. My selection also includes Stockport County, who are unbeaten in League One and have a strong record. The combination of a likely home win and a riskier away game has been successful for me in the past. Stockport’s three wins and three clean sheets make them a compelling option. I don’t anticipate West Brom losing at home, so they’re a solid choice for this week.
